Historic Moments and Key Insights at AMERIND’s 2025 Tribal Risk & Insurance Convening

Santa Ana Pueblo, NM – AMERIND, the country’s only 100 percent Tribally owned insurance carrier, hosted its annual Tribal Risk & Insurance Convening August 13 to 15 in Lake Buena Vista, FL. Over 240 attendees gathered to learn the latest in risk management, leadership, human resources, finance, technology, and Tribal development. This year’s theme, “Exploring Possibility. Pursuing Opportunity.” was about finding practical solutions to meet the evolving needs of Tribal Nations.

“Our convening serves as a cornerstone for Tribal governments, businesses, gaming, and housing communities to gather, learn, and build lasting connections,” CEO Derek Valdo said. “We hope each attendee left renewed, inspired, and equipped to carry forward the knowledge and tools that will benefit their people.”

Native American entrepreneur, actor, and musician Gary “Litefoot” Davis served as the MC during the event, delivering engaging dialogue that attendees won’t soon forget. Highlights of the convening included an inspiring keynote from celebrated speaker and best-selling author, D.J. Eagle, multiple breakout sessions on today’s most pressing topics, and the election of AMERIND’s first female chairperson, Jerri Killer, Sr. Deputy Executive Director of the Cherokee Nation Housing Authority.

“The 2025 Tribal Risk & Insurance Convening truly was magical, as we made history,” Chairwoman Killer stated. “I am honored to be elected as AMERIND’s first female Chair of the Board of Directors and am looking forward to what lies ahead as AMERIND continues to grow, innovate, and strengthen our mission of protecting Tribes.”

Additional activities included a networking mixer, the AMERIND Feud Gameshow, and a welcome reception filled with laughter, dancing, and photos with Disney characters.
